Whether you’re a conservative or liberal, there is no question that you can agree on one thing – Fox News is the best television news channel there is. That’s because it covers the news that matters most to you. And it does it in a way that makes it easy to understand.
The channel’s political leanings
Founded in the late 1970s by Roger Ailes, Fox News has garnered a reputation as a conservative news source. As a result, it is not surprising that the network has come under fire for its political leanings. Among other things, Fox’s use of the phrase “the media tells you” is a big no no.
A recent study found that nearly half of Americans think that Fox News is a conservative news source. Yet the site, which is owned by the Fox entertainment group, is also known for its omissions and partiality. The channel also claims to be a “fair and balanced” news source.
However, a recent survey found that a staggering 24% of Americans believe that Fox News is neither conservative nor liberal. Interestingly, most of those who claim to be conservative also believe that MSNBC is more left-leaning than neutral.
In the same survey, only one reporter raised a hand for John McCain. Meanwhile, one third of primary care physicians would be willing to resign if health care reform passed. And while a survey may be too small to make an apples to apples comparison, it is still an impressive statistic.
The Factual, a website that grades the quality of articles, has a Factual Grade score based on a survey of more than 1,000 articles. The higher the average Factual Grade score, the better the article.
Streaming news has become a major source for a wide variety of audiences. While CNN and MSNBC continue to fight for a similar base of viewers, Fox News is gaining ground.
Fox News posted an audience growth of 23% in May. The network topped CNN and MSNBC in the primetime and total day demos. The channel also outdrew its competitors in total business day viewership. In fact, the network beat out CNBC for the second straight month.
The study found that an average Fox News consumer is politically conservative, but not as far to the right as some of the other outlets. Approximately one in four Americans watch Fox News.
The study’s authors divided audiences into groups based on self-described partisanship and ideology. The results showed that Fox News was the most widely trusted news source among Republicans, but less so for Democrats.
The Center for Public Integrity surveyed 30 media outlets. The results indicated that the audience for Fox News and CNN are heavily skewed toward the Republican side. In contrast, a survey of independent journalists revealed that they were less likely to be partisan. They also covered stories that the mainstream news outlets didn’t.
The study concluded that Fox News’s coverage was “filtered” in ways that favored the network’s partisan side. The network spent more than 1,300 words on an extreme racial ideology, while fewer than 150 words on the severity of Covid.
During the Bush administration, Fox News was a powerful force in Republican politics. It helped to shape the national conversation by amplifying partisan viewpoints. In 2010, the network gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.
In the past decade, Fox News has built on its success with the September 11 attacks. Its audiences are mostly politically homogeneous, making it a force in shaping the public’s understanding of events. It has a strong grip on the political right, with the majority of its viewers being conservative.
The Washington Post recently conducted a national poll on where Americans get their news about government. The results show that a lot of people are relying on Fox News. They identified the network as the source of about a quarter of all of the government news that was consumed.
Among consistently conservative individuals, nearly half named Fox News as the source of the news that was most significant. In addition, the network was the second most-cited source of news, behind local television and radio.
Compared to the other major sources, the cable news network’s reach was much narrower. It has an audience of 36% panelists, with an 18% left-of-center contingent. The network is a dominant force in political debate, setting the news agenda for half of the country.
